My friend and I left around 8:15, ariving at the Convention center around 8:40. We proceeded to drive around the downtown area for another 45 minutes looking for parking. That wasn't fun. But eventually, we found some spaces on the 5th floor of a parking garage, and started walking toward the convention center.
When we got inside, we met up with a few friends and got all our stuff situated. The person I drove with had the misfortune of breaking part of her cosplay within the first 5 minutes of being there (her staff thing was made partially of a glass lightbulb, and she dropped it). I laughed, along with a few other nearby people. After hanging out for a bit, I decided I'd go walk around the exhibits. I donned my cube and set forth on my escapade.
One of the first things I noticed is that, even though I did make a thing to see out of, I couldn't see very well. Good enough for seeing what was vaguely in front of me, but I couldnt figure out what the hell I was looking at half the time. No periferal vision didnt help either. That pretty much made my whole goal of "Hey, lets see what's going on down here!" pretty much pointless.
The second thing I noticed is that, especially among the ComicCon community, Mr. W. C. Cube is very popular. I couldn't go 5 seconds without hearing "The cake is a lie!" Lemme tell you, that gets old real fast. Everyone wanted pictures too, so I was stopping almost as frequently. (Lemme know if anyone has pictures, I counted 70+ from just the ones I posed for, so someones gotta have em) I had my head hugged a few times too, which was weird.
Other than that, there was a lotta neat stuff. I met Brian Clevenger and Scott Wegener, the writer and artist of Atomic Robo, Brian also being the creator of 8-Bit Theater, a webcomic I read. There was also Chris Hastings of Dr. McNinja, the Red vs. Blue creators, and a giant pikachu mascot thing for the pokemon exhibit, where a bunch of people were playing the card game. I wanted to push him over, he had such stubby legs and arms, and the thought of him flailing on the ground almost made me giggle. There was a section for all the video games, where the companies were running demos of Spore, City of Heroes/Villains, Soul Calibur 4, The Force Unleashed, etc.
Overall it was really fun. Lotta cool exhibits, lotta cool people, and a lotta fat people dressed up like batman.
